The goal of ever rookie quarterback is to win their team’s starting quarterback job. Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Kenny Pickett put up a great fight and just missed out, instead losing to veteran Mitch Trubisky. Nevertheless it is clear Pickett is the future of this team but for now he recognizes he has to just put in the work and be ready as the team’s backup.
“I just kind of focus on what my job is,” Pickett said after practice on Wednesday. “I’m definitely not complacent with my job, I’m always trying to get better, always trying to improve and whenever my chance gets called, if it ever does this season, I need to be ready”
Pickett really stepped his game up once the preseason started and was the equal of Trubisky for much of the preseason. Trubisky has to understand the team has confidence in Pickett and if he struggles the team won’t hesitate to go with the rookie. Pickett just has to keep his head down and work and the opportunity will be there.
