St Mirren bosses throw weight behind new jackets and clothing drive for winter to help those in need

St Mirren are looking for Buddies to help keep those in need warm this winter.

With temperatures set to plummet, the Saints have launched a new initiative to collect winter clothing and jackets they can then distribute throughout the Renfrewshire community.

The club began their drive at last night’s clash with St Johnstone, with another collection set to take place when Rangers visit the SMiSA Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

A St Mirren spokesperson explained: “We’ve teamed up with Kibble and Scottish Leather Group to collect and distribute the clothing and ask that you hand in any donations at entrance points when arriving at the SMiSA Stadium.

“We’ll also be opening our doors to anyone not attending the matches this week. Items can also be dropped off at the SMiSA Stadium reception between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

“Likewise, winter clothing can be donated from Wednesday, November 9 to Wednesday, November 16 at the security gate for Scottish Leather’s Group’s Paisley factory on Turner Drive, Paisley PA3 4EP.

“Weekday drop-off hours at Scottish Leather Group are between 8am and 6pm, with weekend hours between 10am and 2pm.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with generosity from fans to date and hope that, if you are able, you can support this new initiative and help a Buddie out.”

Saints boss Stephen Robinson told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “It’s a brilliant initiative from the club and Kibble. There are a lot of people that face a lot of hardship at this time of year, particularly with the weather coming in.

“We’re all very privileged and live in a privileged world, but not everyone is as lucky.

“It’s a super initiative from St Mirren. We’re a community club and we’re trying to help local people.

“Hopefully as many people as possible help those who aren’t as fortunate as ourselves.

“If anyone can spare a jacket or a jumper it would be really appreciated.”

St Mirren chief executive Keith Lasley added: “A strong sense of community runs through all that we do at St Mirren Football Club and our fans, players and staff are whole heartedly committed to providing support where we can.

“We recently launched our ‘Help a Buddie’ scheme, where supporters have the chance to purchase and donate a match ticket for those less fortunate, and we have been overwhelmed with the generosity of our fans.

"We are delighted to now extend that generosity further and support those within our local area who need it most.”
