Specialist police unit aid search for diver missing from Scottish island

A SPECIALIST police marine unit is due to arrive in Orkney to help with the search for a missing diver.

The coastguard resumed the search for the missing commercial scallop diver yesterday after he was reported missing while working in the Scapa Flow area at around 14:30 on Wednesday.

Police Scotland confirmed a Marine and Dive Unit will arrive later on Monday to assist with the search.

Rescue teams from Kirkwall, Hoy and St Margaret’s joined lifeboats from Longhope and Thurso in the search for the diver last week.

Two coastguard helicopters had also helped to comb the area before police took over the operation.

Orkney Islands Council tugboats were also involved in the search.

The man's identity has not been confirmed.
