THE SNP has challenged Douglas Ross to condemn comments from Rishi Sunak after the Chancellor said it would be "silly" to provide more support to struggling families during the cost-of-living crisis.
The Scottish Tory leader has stayed silent on Sunak's remarks for four days, but the SNP insists he must confirm whether he agrees with them or not and come clean with voters ahead of Thursday's poll.
Sunak said he wouldn't consider providing further support to tackle rising energy bills now, before knowing what will happen to prices in the autumn.
SNP MSP Michelle Thomson, who was formally an MP between 2015 and 2017, said Ross must lay out whether he supports the Chancellor's view and "stop running away" from his colleagues down south.
She said: "It is insulting for Rishi Sunak to label it 'silly' for his Tory government to step up and take action to help families seriously struggling right now - either the Tories don't understand or don't care but whichever it is, it is disgraceful.
Households faced a 54% hike in energy costs last month along with record-high inflation.
Opposition parties have called for an emergency budget from the UK Government to ensure more families do not slip into poverty.
Sunak has said he will look again at providing more support in the autumn when the energy price cap is expected to go up again.
The Scottish Conservatives have been approached for comment.
