Patients of Burnbrae Medical Practice attended a town hall meeting to address concerns with the GP service in Shotts.
Last week's event was hosted by Shotts MP Anum Qaisar, who welcomed more than 50 residents who raised difficulties they have experienced in recent years at the practice.
Commenting after the meeting, Ms Qaisar said: “The town hall was a busy and productive event which allowed me to hear from my constituents, on both a group and individual level, about the issues they have been facing at Burnbrae.
“I am grateful to the patients of the practice for taking the time out of their evening to speak with me and share their personal stories, particularly as I know this is not always an easy task.”
GP practices are independently run, but they are overseen by health boards which are guided by legislation implemented by the Scottish Government.
The parliamentarian noted that, despite concerns with the practice, it was evident that the community understand the pressures NHS staff have experienced in recent years.
Ms Qaisar added: “Every person I spoke to had a clear appreciation for the NHS and the challenges it has faced.
“They understand the difficulties staff are under; they just want to access to the health service that they deserve and that has been such a source of pride for people throughout the country for decades.”
“We will be collating the data and feedback from the meeting and will be presenting it to Burnbrae and NHS Lanarkshire, as well as writing to the Health Minister Humza Yousaf MSP.
“At the end of the day, we all want the same thing, to provide the best quality healthcare to the people of Scotland.
“I am looking forward to working with the relevant third parties to resolve outstanding issues and represent the needs of my constituents in Shotts.”
