Shoppers advised to book supermarket Christmas delivery slots 'as soon as possible'

Christmas is little more than two months away and the supermarket chains are busy preparing for the festive season. Some of the major stores have already opened their Christmas delivery slots and it would appear that demand is high this year as bookings are already filling up.

The Mirror reports that other supermarkets are set to release their slots in the coming days and weeks, and customers will be able to plan ahead by securing their ideal slots well in advance of Christmas. However, they are being urged to book as soon as possible. Here is our guide to the main supermarkets' festive delivery slots.

Asda

Asda is opening bookings for Food to Order, Christmas delivery and collection spots on October 18 for Delivery Pass customers. If you don't have a delivery pass then you'll need to wait until October 25 to reserve your slot.

Christmas delivery slots will be available between December 20 to 23 and collection slots are also available to book. However, it's worth noting that the supermarket will be closing its Christmas Food to Order bookings on December 15.

Morrisons

2022 Christmas delivery slots at Morrisons haven't opened yet. The supermarket hasn't confirmed when bookings will open for both Delivery Pass members and regular customers. However, it will announce its festive slots shortly.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's Christmas delivery slots are already open for Delivery Pass customers. They can book slots for between December 18 to 21.

The slots are then being released in daily batches, including:

  • October 18 for delivery on December 22
  • October 19 for delivery on December 23
  • October 20 for delivery on December 24

Customers without a Delivery Pass will be able to start booking Christmas delivery slots on October 25. These will also be released in the following batches:

  • October 25 for delivery on December 22
  • October 26 for delivery on December 23
  • October 27 for delivery on December 24

The last day that you can book a Christmas delivery slot at Sainsbury's is December 16 by midnight.

Tesco

Tesco hasn't opened up bookings for its Christmas delivery slots yet but confirmed that Christmas bookings will open in November. Its website states: "Christmas slots for delivery and collection will be available in just a jingle. Book a slot in November, so you can focus on the festivities."

Customers who are on a Delivery Saver plan with Tesco will get early access to the Christmas slots, although the supermarket has not announced when this will be.

Ocado

Ocado also offers Christmas delivery slots, and while M&S doesn't offer delivery, customers can get their products delivered through Ocado. Slots have already opened for Smart Pass customers, who got early access to Christmas delivery bookings if they signed up before September 25.

Ocado hasn't confirmed when regular customers will be able to book slots, but its website states that customers will receive an email or SMS text and will see a star for Christmas slots next to ‘Book a Delivery’ as soon as bookings become available. It has also advised customers to book quickly, saying: "These slots get booked up really quickly, so we can’t guarantee everyone will get one. We recommend you book your slot as soon as you’re notified that slots are available for booking."

Waitrose

The Waitrose Christmas delivery slots are now open for booking but are selling out quick. All slots for December 21 to December 24 are currently showing as either unavailable or sold out, but there are still slots available for December 20. Each customer is limited to two delivery slots between December 20 and 24.

Waitrose says that this is to meet demand and "ensure greater access to delivery slots for all our customers". It also asks customers to only book a second slot if "absolutely necessary".

Lidl and Aldi

With the cost of living crisis impacting millions, many of us will be looking to cut the cost of our Christmas shop this year and one way to do that is by opting for lower budget supermarkets like Aldi and Lidl.

Lidl does not offer home delivery or online orders but Aldi does offer online orders and home delivery on some of its products, including Specialbuys and wine and spirits. It hasn't announced its Christmas delivery slots yet but is expected to soon.
