Selena Gomez joined the list of entertainers who are endorsing Beto O’Rourke for governor of Texas.
Gomez, who grew up in Grand Prairie, posted an Instagram story on Monday, writing in it that she had “the pleasure of meeting @betoorourke a few years ago and was so impressed by him. For those of you in my home state of Texas, please vote for him!”
The video showed the El Paso Democrat at rallies throughout Texas.
O’Rourke has also picked up support from Harry Styles, Willie Nelson, Oprah Winfrey, Mark Ruffalo, Kacey Musgraves, Lin Manuel Miranda, Will Ferrell, Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband Matthew Broderick.
The celebrity endorsements haven’t delivered a big win for O’Rourke. That’s up to voters on Tuesday.
Abbott’s campaign has said that out-of-state dollars and support for O’Rourke are “pouring into Texas” where the Republican incumbent has led in polls.
“Beto and his team of Hollywood celebrities and New York City elitists are out of touch with Texans,” Mark Miner, communications director for Texans for Greg Abbott, told the Houston Chronicle.
Gomez, 30, told Vogue she didn’t vote before 2020. As the 2020 election neared, she interviewed Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams for the online organization She Se Puede.
“My first engagement with Selena was revelatory: She expressed an honest disengagement with traditional politics while also showing a hunger for solving real, painful problems,” Abrams told Vogue.
In May, Gomez was enlisted by the White House for the Mental Health Youth Forum. She joined President Joe Biden, first lady Jill Biden and surgeon general Dr. Vivek Murthy in an discussion.
Last week, Gomez’s documentary, "Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me," debuted on Apple TV+. In it, she addresses her struggles with mental health.
