Security forces kill 3 infiltrators in J&K’s Uri

Three infiltrators were killed along the Line of Control (LoC) as the security forces foiled an infiltration bid in the Uri Sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla on August 25, the Army said in Srinagar.

“An operation was launched based on specific intelligence from Army intelligence agencies in the afternoon of August 24. Multiple ambushes were laid to trap the infiltrators. Intensive electronic surveillance of the suspected area led to detection of the attempt at 7 a.m. hours on August 25,” the Army said

The Army said a contact with the infiltrators was established around 8.45 a.m. on this side of the LoC, “leading to heavy exchange of fire in which the militants were killed”

It said the infiltrators were hoping to use the cover of thick undergrowth, foliage and continuous rain and low clouds to infiltrate.

The bodies of the infiltrators have been recovered. “Two AK rifles, one Chinese M-16 rifle along with other war-like stores were also recovered,” the Army said.

The Army said the soldiers have not only successfully led to the elimination of three Pakistani militants but also has resulted in thwarting Pakistan’s nefarious design and intent to disrupt peace, prosperity and normalcy in J&K. Meanwhile, in a separate statement, a police spokesman said the Baramulla police were also part of the operation near Madiyan Nanak post in Kamalkote sector of Uri, in which three non-local infiltrators were killed

Shah reviews security situation

With at least three infiltration bids by terrorists from across the border in the last four days in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday reviewed the situation, including the security arrangements along the border with Pakistan, officials said.

National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and senior officials of the Centre and the Union Territory administration attended the meeting chaired by Shah.
