With Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner out of the picture, the biggest star on the Seahawks is now wide receiver D.K. Metcalf. Heading into his fourth year in the NFL, Metcalf appears to be on the cusp of finally breaking into the elite receiver conversation.
Metcalf’s latest accolade is being named among the league’s top 16 wideouts. He came in at No. 11 on Mark Schofield’s list.
“D.K. Metcalf’s draft process is perhaps the most recent — and glaring — example of evaluators asking the wrong questions about a player. While many focused on a shaky three-cone time, and wondered if he could offer a complete route tree as an NFL receiver, it ignored what Metcalf did well. And just how well he could do that at the next level. In his three NFL seasons, Metcalf has emerged as one of the league’s most explosive downfield threats.”
This aligns pretty closely with where Metcalf was ranked by ESPN – who put him at No. 10 in their receiver rankings.
Again, we feel this is roughly the appropriate place for Metcalf to be ranked at this point in this career. However, we expect that by this time next year he should be no lower than No. 5 on these lists.
