Interior designers and property entrepreneurs Colin and Justin ended up red faced after being locked out of their home in their jammies.
The two Scots, who now live in Canada, had decided to put out the garbage but didn't realise just how cold it was.
The freak weather conditions ended up freezing their door lock within seconds - meaning they couldn't get back in.
The pair posted on their Insta page to tell fans of their dismay, saying: "Just spent a jolly 40 minutes outside trying to get back into the house, the locks of which were frozen due to salty -20 ocean winds.
"Fortunately our electrician John arrived on site with a loosening can of lock de-icer."
"Note to selfs: Never put the garbage out in sub zero temperatures, wearing Deputy Dawg Pyjamas and Garfield slippers.
"Even the friendly local fox looked askance as we tussled with the frozen portal."
Fans found the news of the duo's predicament hilarious and others said it was a common occurrence in Nova Scotia.
One said: "My friend in Ontario says you are due heavy snow. Stay safe boys."
Another added: "Oh boy I identify. I was locked out once on the coldest day of the winter with two wee children...poor guys."
And someone else said: 'Thanks so much for the laugh. The visual in my head will keep me smiling all day."
