Scottish DJ star Ewan McVicar described the experience of helping his boyhood club St Mirren launch their new away strip as “unreal”.
The musician, who shot to fame thanks to his hit single Tell Me Something Good, has supported the Saints since he was a youngster.
McVicar has never hidden that fact, wearing pieces of Saints kit at gigs around the world - including sets from Ibiza to Glastonbury.
While he has just helped the Buddies launch their striking new black away kit, McVicar insists donning the black and white stripes while on tour helps him feel as at home as he does at the SMISA Stadium.
McVicar said: “I have grown up supporting St Mirren and it means the world to me to be walking through the tunnel being filmed wearing the new away top.
“It is unreal.
“At all the big gigs I have played, I’ve worn a piece of St Mirren kit to feel a sense of home.
“The new away kit is one of my favourite strips St Mirren has ever released.
“I can’t wait to wear the new top this summer.”
The impressive new black kit, released this afternoon, heavily features the historic Paisley pattern and will get a first run out in tomorrow’s Premier Sports Cup clash against Cowdenbeath.
St Mirren chief executive Keith Lasley revealed it was ‘music to his ears’ when McVicar agreed to get involved with the launch.
He believes utilising both the DJ, whose stepdad is former chief executive Brian Caldwell, and the pattern are crucial to help the club keep strengthening their ties with Paisley and their fanbase.
Speaking exclusively to Renfrewshire Live, Lasley said: “It was a total team effort. We’re trying to come up with new ways to connect with the fans and make the new kit as exciting as it can be, in terms of the strip and the launch.
“We’re delighted with the final outcome. This community means so much to us and we’re trying to build our connection with them as much as possible.
“We want to represent our supporters, Paisley and the local community. Having the Paisley pattern on the strip for us is hopefully a sign of that connection.
“We’re proud of our town. Hopefully this is a sign towards that.
“Ewan has stood in W7 a number of times. He’s got a great connection and affinity with the football club.
“When we got in touch with him he was really keen to get involved, which was music to our ears.
“We’re very thankful for his time. It was great to meet him in person. He’s a very busy lad, his schedule is crazy, so for him to come along to the stadium and be part of the launch was really exciting.”
