Aberdeenshire Council's energy bill has increased by a whopping £14million in the last two years, according to the local authority.
The cost of powering the vast estate has soared due to rising fuel costs, as punters in the region also feel the squeeze amid the cost of living crisis.
The council explained in a social media post that the cost of heating and lighting its schools, community centres, depots and offices had soared since 2021, according to Aberdeen Live.
The post stated: "Communities are not alone in feeling the pinch in their energy bills. Our energy bill has gone up by £14 million since 2021.
"That is the cost of heating and lighting our estate which includes our schools, our community centres, our depots, our offices."
Meanwhile, Aberdeenshire Council’s Communities Committee is to recommend that the authority limits council rent increases to 2.5 per cent from April this year.
Speaking after the committee, Councillor Anne Stirling said: “The recommended increase would mean an average rise of around £4.40 per week for the majority of tenants.
"But we do recognise the additional pressures around energy costs for those in sheltered housing and a programme of support is being put in place to help those who are finding things difficult.”
