Scotland's airports ranked in list as UK's 'worst' branded 'chaotic' and 'shambles'

A new list of the UK's best and worst airports has been revealed as three of Scotland's hubs made it into the top 10.

It comes just after a summer of travel chaos as holidaymakers faced queues and cancellations caused by staff shortages at some of the UK's busiest airports.

The list was topped by smaller airports which ranked well above their big-name rivals, and in Scotland's case, the best ranked airport was Inverness which shared sixth place with Cardiff.

Glasgow International took eighth whilst Edinburgh came in at 10th and in 13th place was Aberdeen.

The research was conducted by the consumer experts at Which? who surveyed 7,469 members of its online panel. The respondents reported 7,963 airport experiences over the past two years.

Airports were ranked based on a combination of overall satisfaction and how likely respondents are to recommend the airport.

Inverness had an impressive customer satisfaction score of 73 percent. Following that, Glasgow received 63 percent and Edinburgh scored 58 percent. Aberdeen had the lowest customer satisfaction out of Scotland's airports with a score of 54 percent.

Guy Hobbs, Editor of Which? Travel said: "This year we've witnessed unprecedented chaos at many of the UK's largest airports. Travellers reported extensive queues and unhelpful staff, with resources pushed to breaking point.

"Just a few years ago, travellers may have paid little attention to their choice of airport – but now it may just make or break your trip. Wherever possible, we'd recommend opting for smaller airports, which have generally offered a smoother and less stressful experience for their passengers over the last two years."

While Scottish airports mostly appeared in the middle of the pack, Manchester terminals 1, 2 and 3 took the three lowest spots in the rankings.

Terminal 3 in particular was described as "chaotic", "heaving", and "an end-to-end shambles". It received a satisfaction score of just 38 percent.

As for the UK's best airport, Doncaster Sheffield Airport topped the consumer champion's survey for the fourth consecutive time with a customer score of 85 per cent.
