In recent news, a report has surfaced regarding a fix for the display issues faced by the Samsung Galaxy S24-series. Specifically, users have raised concerns about the display quality of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, prompting Samsung to take action and address these complaints.
According to a renowned leaker known as Ice Universe, Samsung is currently working on a new display adjustment tool that will empower users with fine control over on-screen color reproduction. Additionally, a new 'Vividness' slider will be introduced, allowing users to boost color output and achieve the same vibrant look as previous Samsung smartphones like the Galaxy S23 Ultra. This new tool is expected to be incorporated into a software update.
The report suggests that by increasing the Vividness setting by one notch, the display of the Galaxy S24-series will resemble the default color reproduction of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Taking it a step further will yield colors similar to the Galaxy S21 Ultra. This feature will be particularly welcoming for Galaxy S24 owners who have expressed dissatisfaction with the current 'washed out' appearance on their displays while using the Vivid mode option.
However, it remains uncertain how Samsung will present these controls to Galaxy S24-series owners during device setup. If users are expected to find and adjust the Vividness slider on their own, it implies that the display will still default to the controversially 'muted' colors. The report also does not address whether the current Natural and Vivid modes will coexist alongside these new controls or if the sliders will replace them. Nevertheless, if the current modes are retained, it would be beneficial for users to easily distinguish between them, with the Vivid mode clearly displaying more vibrant colors than the Natural mode.
Although the release date of this update is yet to be announced, it is hoped that Samsung will roll it out sooner rather than later to address these display concerns.
Update as of February 12: Despite positive independent test results, it seems that additional display issues have been reported by users of the Galaxy S24-series. A recent Reddit poll reveals that 151 out of 358 voters notice a 'grainy texture' in gray or darker areas of the screen. Some responses on Ice Universe's tweet also mention this graininess problem. However, it is important to note that the majority of poll respondents were unsure or did not observe such an issue on their devices.
This particular problem appears to affect specific handsets within the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S24/S24+ models, suggesting that it may be a permanent hardware issue rather than something that can be resolved through a software update. One user commented on the Reddit post, claiming that Samsung instructed them to return their device for a refund, indicating that the company acknowledges and addresses this issue with select customers. Unfortunately, not all users have received the same level of assistance and support from Samsung.
It is worth noting that requesting the return of a device does not necessarily imply an admission of any problem. Nevertheless, it would be logical for Samsung to examine the device to ensure that everything is functioning as expected.
