Sainsbury's, Lidl and B&M warnings with customers urged not to eat curries, seafood and nuts

It's time to check those kitchens again after a number of safety warnings were issued about food from supermarkets.

Sainsbury's, B&M and Lidl have recalled a number of items in recent weeks, with customers urged not to eat them but instead return them to store for a full refund. You do not need to have your receipt to get your money back.

When a product is recalled, for any reason, the Food Safety Agency (FSA) shares details on what you should do if you have bought the item, as well as detailed information on why the product is being pulled from shelves.

A number of products have been recalled in recent weeks, with some having used by dates as far ahead as January 2024. With that in mind, it could be worth checking your kitchen cupboards, fridge and freezer to see if you have any of the items.

Here are some of the latest product recalls from Sainsbury's, Lidl and B&M as well as some ongoing recalls from Tesco, Iceland and Waitrose.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's has recalled Scratch Meals' Scratch Chicken & Veggie Tikka Masala with spiced brown rice because it contains a (non-allergen) vitamin and mineral ingredient not listed on the label, which may cause an adverse reaction. The supermarket said: "We are asking customers who have purchased this product to not consume it and to return it to their nearest Sainsbury's store where they will receive a full refund."

For any concerns or queries, customers are advised to contact Scratch Meals Ltd on hello@mealsfromscratch.co.uk. No other Scratch Meals Ltd products are known to be affected. A post on Sainsbury's website continued: "This recall has been initiated with the best interests of our consumers at heart. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The affected batches have best before dates from March 27 to April 2, 2022.

Lidl

Lidl is recalling batches of pistachio nuts due to the "potential presence" of Salmonella. Salmonella, the retailer says, can trigger "severe gastrointestinal problems".

The affected item is Alesto Californian Pistachios Roasted & Salted, 200g. The batch code is LP200N22004 and items have a best before date of 04.10.2022.

Alesto Californian Pistachios (Lidl GB)

A post from Lidl reads: "If you have bought the above mentioned product we advise you not to eat it. Instead, return it to a Lidl GB store for a full refund, with or without a receipt. No other Alesto products in Lidl GB stores are affected by this recall."

Lidl has issued an apology for any inconvenience caused. Any customers with queries or concerns are advised to contact Customer Services on 0370 444 1234

B&M

Jars of seafood are being recalled from B&M after a piece of glass was found inside the product. The affected batch of Parsons branded pickled mussels is only sold in B&M stores in the UK..

The Food Standards Agency says the product recall is due to "the presence of glass fragments" in some jars which makes the food "unsafe to eat". Notices have been displayed in all B&M retail stores that are selling the product.

The notice states: "We are recalling Parsons Pickled Mussels due to a piece of glass having been found in the product." Important details regarding the affected batch are also detailed.

The glass jars being recalled have a pack size of 155g with a best before date of November 2024. The batch code is 38V and the day of production code is 327. The batch code, best before date and day of production code can be found printed on the bottom of the jar.

Tesco

Tesco has recalled a batch of Trewithen Dairy's unsalted butter due to high levels of bacteria. A Facebook post from Tesco said: "As a precaution, Trewithen Dairy is recalling one batch code of its unsalted butter, as it’s been found to contain high levels of E. coli."

Anyone who has bought the item is advised "please don’t eat it". The butter can be returned to any Tesco store where a full refund will be given - even without a receipt.

The affected batch is Trewithen Dairy Unsalted Butter 250G, with a best before date of May 23, 2022. The batch code is G2 073 and no other Trewithen Dairy products are known to be affected.

Iceland

Iceland is recalling its Takeaway Chicken Bhuna because it contains milk that is not declared on the label. As a result of a packaging error, some packs may contain Iceland Takeaway Creamy Butter Chicken.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents. Affected packs will have a best before date of January 26, 2024.

Waitrose has pulled a variety of Snaffling Pig Co snacks with best before dates up to and including September 23, 2022. The range has been recalled as a "precautionary measure due" to the potential presence of Salmonella, which may lead to illness if consumed.
