There ain’t no party like an S Club party in a supermarket if the pop group’s latest collaboration is anything to go by.
Tina Barrett, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O'Meara, and Rachel Stevens have teamed up with Waitrose to celebrate the re-launch of the Waitrose No. 1 range.
As part of it, they have enlisted the help of DJ and Producer Jax Jones to reimagine and remix the band’s 1999 classic, You’re My Number One, in what has been described as “a match made in TikTok heaven”.
The accompanying video was filmed in Waitrose John Barnes on Finchley Road in London after hours and sees the five-piece causing chaos in the aisles.
The video begins with Stevens making a grand entrance to join the rest of her bandmates singing and dancing to You’re My Number One, with McIntosh enjoying a tasty-looking cupcake.
The food theme continues with the Never Had A Dream Come True hitmakers then sitting down to a feast featuring more products from the range.
Later, Lee cheekily grabs another treat while being pushed in a shopping trolley by his fellow band members.
In the following scene, Barrett poses for the paparazzi, holding a Waitrose reusable canvas bag and munching on a chocolate ginger thin.
The video concludes with S Club leaving the shop fully laden with bags filled with No.1 goodies.
O’Meara said of S Club’s involvement: “We just had the best time working on this campaign with Waitrose. We all shop there and it’s such a classic British brand, so it felt like a natural partnership from the start. ‘You’re My Number One’ is a song from the first album we ever released in the late ‘90s, so having Jax create this remix all these years later is so special.”
Nathan Ansell, Waitrose Customer Director added: “We really wanted to Reach (for the stars) with S Club, to recreate the iconic “You’re My Number One” 90s hit and it turned out they love Waitrose as much as we do, so it was a real pleasure to redo the whole single with them. We can’t wait to see what our customers think about the remix.”
S Club, formerly known as S Club 7, were originally put together by former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller back in 1998 and in addition to starring in their own TV shows Miami 7 and L.A. 7, they released four studio albums which spawned four number one singles.
They split up in 2003, but briefly reunited in 2014 to perform a medley of their best-known songs from the BBC Children In Need appeal.
They reunited for a reunion tour in 2015 and in February 2023, announced that they were getting back together once more to mark their 25th anniversary with another tour.
Tragedy struck just two months later when band member Paul Cattermole was discovered dead at his home, with his cause of death later determined to be natural causes.
The group decided to press on with the tour, but another member, Hannah Spearritt, who had previously been in a relationship with Cattermole, decided to no longer take part.
