Rod Stewart backs menopause campaign after wife Penny Lancaster's struggle

Rod Stewart has urged his social media followers to support the menopause mandate campaign.

The Maggie May singe r posed alongside a copy of the Daily Mail newspaper, as the front page read, "HRT crisis 'putting women's lives in danger'".

The menopause mandate began last October after Labour MP Carolyn Harris succeeded in getting HRT costs reduced to a once a year payment in England (an Annual Prepayment Certificate for HRT products).

However, on March 16th, 2022, it was announced that this won't be implemented till April 2023, leaving many women struggling to pay as Rod urges his followers to sign the petition to help the change go through parliament sooner.

This is a cause close to Rod's heart after his wife Penny Lancaster struggled with the menopause and used HRT tablets to help her ease the symptoms.

Penny opened up about starting the menopause in lockdown and how it had affected her health in recent months.

The 50-year-old admitted she was "freaked out" at first and thought that it was the end for her sex appeal.

The former model said she has gone on to "embrace each stage of your life with more maturity", adding she had to give herself a break from worrying over the menopause.

The Loose Women star opened up about her struggles on the ITV show and shared her concerns during a special 'menopause matters' edition of Hello! Magazine.

In September, she broke down in tears as she recalled the conversation she had with her doctor about her symptoms.

The mother-of-two said she had been crying uncontrollably, suffering from anxiety and felt as though she had lost her grip with menopause.

She told viewers: "I had a few tears with her [the doctor], trying to explain what I’ve been going through in the last few months and she said, ‘You’ve got to get to the point where you say to yourself, ‘I see you'."

Penny went on to say she felt she had lost herself during the process, adding: "You feel guilty for being upset.

"You burst into tears and you don't know why you're crying."

Rod's wife said she was given medication by her doctor which helped but didn't address "the real problem".

She has since taken HRT tablets to help balance out her symptoms.

Penny went on to say she no longer suffers from hot sweats, but still has anxiety and an underactive thyroid gland.

Rod's followers thanked the star for using his platform to raise awareness of the campaign.

One wrote: "Thanks for doing this , its an absolute nightmare trying to get hold of hrt"

"It’s changed my@life been on it a month menopause is a head fu.. hrt helped do much well done rod," another said.

A third wrote: "Thanks Rod for supporting this, your a gem xxxx"
