Robert De Niro is widely regarded as one of the best actors of all time.
He’s appeared in so many memorable films, from Goodfellas to Taxi Driver and beyond. He’s also been recognized by the Academy Awards for his stellar career.
Exactly how many times the Oscars have awarded the legendary actor is a very fascinating question, however.
De Niro has won two Oscars in his career, once for 1974’s The Godfather: Part II in Best Supporting Actor and again for 1980’s Raging Bull in Best Actor. He’s been nominated nine times by the Academy over the past five decades, but he’s only won twice for those two performances.
The other films that De Niro was nominated for but didn’t end up winning for were Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Awakenings, Cape Fear, Silver Linings Playbook, The Irishman and, most recently, Killers of the Flower Moon.
It’s that last performance that De Niro is currently nominated for in Best Supporting Actor, and we’ll know on March 10 if he’ll add a third Oscar to his mantle.
