Caroline Street was shut off from Chapel Lane to Wallgate earlier, though the road has since been reopened. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "Just before 6am this morning (Thursday 29 June) we received a report about a fire on Caroline Street, Wigan, involving the third storey of a converted block of flats.
“Four fire engines from Wigan, Hindley and Leigh fire stations were quickly mobilised to attend, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels to tackle the blaze and a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke from the building. Crews remain at the scene at this time."
