Former Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers reportedly bet on his teammate while wagering on NFL games last season.
Indianapolis announced Thursday it is waiving Rodgers and tight end Rashod Berry after the league announced indefinite suspensions for the two for betting. Free agent Demetrius Thomas was also suspended indefinitely. The suspensions are expected to last at least a year.
Rodgers placed over 100 bets with an online sportsbook, and at least one of the bets was on a game involving Indianapolis, according to ESPN’s David Purdum. Rodgers, who is from Florida, was encouraged to place bets by his friends with most of them being between $25 to $50. Legal sports betting was not available in Florida this past football season, and the largest wager placed through the account was a $1,000 prop bet on the over/under on rushing yards by a Colts running back. Rodgers won the bet.
The 25-year-old defensive back and kick returner started nine of 15 games played in 2022. He tallied 692 yards and one touchdown on 24 returns, and notched 34 tackles and recovered four fumbles in the secondary.
Titans offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere was also suspended for six games for betting on other sports at the workplace, per ESPN.
