Approximately 200 Pro-Palestine protesters have assembled outside New York University's Stern School of Business, with some pro-Israel demonstrators waving Israeli flags across the street. The scene also includes more than a dozen NYPD officers and campus security personnel.
Campus security has been observed requesting student identification for access to the school campus from the sidewalk. Additionally, a nearby encampment with about 10 tents has been set up by some of the protesters.
Chants of “Intifada, intifada, globalize the intifada” were heard among the protesters. Furthermore, individuals were reciting lines and singing songs from the Haggadah, the Jewish book used during Seder. A self-identified Jewish student at NYU was seen leading some of the songs.
In response to the demonstration, NYU spokesperson John Beckman stated, “This morning, some 50 protesters began a demonstration on the plaza in front of the business school. This occurred without notice to the University. There are some additional picketers on the public sidewalk in front of the plaza.”
Beckman emphasized that access to the plaza has been restricted, but classes are continuing as scheduled. He also highlighted the university's commitment to minimizing disruption to its academic mission, preventing escalation and violence, and ensuring the safety of all members of the NYU community.
NYU, situated in Greenwich Village in Manhattan, is actively addressing the situation with urgency to maintain a safe and conducive environment for all individuals on campus.
