Crazy cocktail combinations have been created to satisfy drinkers' desires for something different this summer. Shocking research by iconic whisky brand has thrown up a mash of adventurous mixes - with some certain to raise eyebrows.
The Jura Whisky study uncovered some of the weird and not-so-wonderful cocktails being created by at-home enthusiasts. From classic cocktails gone wrong – such as mint-less mojitos, curdled Pina Coladas, and over-egged whisky sours – to the truly inexplicable.
Stand-outs included beer and barley wine, whisky and Worcester sauce, and a pineapple and coffee liqueur combo. One brave home-brewed bartender admitted to spicing up his vodka & Coke with ketchup while another opted to top his gin and tonic with dandelions.
The most common confession was ‘chucking in’ kitchen staples, including yoghurt, spinach, olives, mustard, gravy, and even pickle juice. But the results did uncover the odd success story. Whisky and elderflower emerged as a firm favourite, together with spiced rum and apple, and an inventive gingerbread martini.
Jura Brand Ambassador and whisky expert, Andrew Lennie, said: “With bars and restaurants closed for business last year, people got inventive trying to recreate their favourite drinks at home – albeit with mixed results. Now, it’s great to see customers making bolder, more adventurous choices and really having fun with their drink orders.
"Jura is on a mission to break the mould and change the way people think about whisky, and that starts with finding new and exciting ways to introduce them to the category.”
Those looking to shake up their whisky serves and try something new this summer can claim a free bottle of Fever-Tree mixer with every bottle of Jura Journey or 10 Year Old bought instore at Sainsburys, Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Waitrose and Co Op while stocks last.
