Police in Lanarkshire warn locals on dangers of bogus crime

Lanarkshire Police have warned residents over the dangers of bogus crime.

Officers have warned that these criminals will carry out work and take a deposit but never return, some will distract in an attempt to gain access to your home, some will overcharge for substandard work and others may charge more than originally stated.

Police are asking the public to be a part of the prevention by looking out for these criminals but also the most vulnerable in our communities.

If you see anyone suspicious take a note of their description; if they provide a name write it down and write down registration number of vehicles they are using.

Lanarkshire’s Operations Superintendent, Raymond Higgins, said: “We take bogus crime seriously and we have dedicated officers that work tirelessly to identify suspects.

“We encourage you to be vigilant and contact us on 101 or 999 in an emergency if you see any suspicious activity or you feel you’ve been a victim.”

Police are asking the public to know your rights and if you are not happy with work carried out, you can contact your local Trading Standards team by logging onto the North or South Lanarkshire Council websites.
