Poland bid to ease tourist safety fears - despite war in neighbouring Ukraine

Travel chiefs in Poland are launching a summer social media campaign to attract a new generation of tourists. #PolandVibes has been unveiled by the Polish Tourism Organisation to highlight its hospitality and vibrant cities as it aims to convince visitors it is a safe place to visit despite the troubles in neighbouring Ukraine.

Created by travel experts LOTUS, the campaign will start the conversation about how fun, safe and open Poland is in summer 2022. Post-pandemic, all Poland’s tourist attractions, hotels and restaurants have re-opened.

But despite this, the Polish government has reported that cancellations for trips to the country have risen since the end of February, when Russian hostilities began in Ukraine. During the next few months, Poland will welcome a range of high-profile artists to play at their major music venues and festivals.

Warsaw’s Letna Scena Progresja – Poland’s biggest music club – will host Alt-J, Shaggy and Tom Odell while festivals such as The Open’er include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Florence + The Machine and LCD Soundsystem as headliners. Meanwhile, the Krakow Live Festival will headline with Lewis Capaldi and Pol’and Rock Festival in Czaplinek will host the biggest free event in Europe from August 4-6.

Poland’s culinary scene has also rapidly developed in recent years with organic produce widely available and a host of Polish chefs winning acclaim for their combinations of traditional and innovative recipes in stand-out slick and contemporary restaurants.

Dorota Wojciechowska, UK director of the Polish Tourism Organisation, said: “As Poland is in the heart of Europe, our citizens have done everything they can to help our neighbours in their hour of need, but it is worth remembering that our major cities are all located far from the border crossing with Ukraine, and by supporting the Polish tourism economy, you can also help us to help Ukraine.

“We are a big-hearted nation, and we are still warmly welcoming visitors, whether they are looking for R&R or refuge. Our tourist attractions, hotels and restaurants are open as usual, and we are very much looking forward to a summer of cultural highlights where visitors will continue to receive the excellent hospitality and warm welcome long associated with Poland.

“If you would like to contribute to the campaign, tell us what you love about Poland with the hashtag #PolandVibes.” Visit https://www.poland.travel/en for further information.
