The man behind Nottingham's Hooters hoping to spread his wings to open another restaurant - this time in Salford Quays, near Manchester. Julian Mills, 46, who runs the branch, famed for its chicken wings and scantily-clad waitresses, in London Road in the city is looking to expand the business.
An application has been submitted to Salford Council is for a licence to run live music, recorded music and dance performances. If approved, the restaurant will open its doors between 9am to 1am seven days a week.
For years Nottingham has had the only Hooters in the UK but in February plans for a second in Liverpool were approved, despite opposition that the concept was "degrading." A petition condemned the chain as "an archaic and chauvinistic brand."
However Manchester Evening News readers have welcomed plans. Lynsey Smoothey said: "About time! It will do well. Been to a couple in America, and the Nottingham one several times and have always had a far nicer meal and massively better service than most UK restaurants. I've said for a while one would do very well in the Greater Manchester area."
Peter Murphy added: "Probably wear a different uniform in Salford as the weather is a little chillier."
