Plans put to residents to reduce severe flooding from Westquarter Burn

Plans to reduce the risk of flooding in an area which has seen people forced out of their homes by knee-high water are to be put to residents.

Falkirk Council has organised an online event to discuss proposals to mitigate flooding at houses near Westquarter Burn.

Residents of Langton Road, Westquarter, have endured several severe floods in their street over the years, most recently in August 2020 when a short, flash flood caused the burn to burst its banks.

It left parts of Langton Road knee-high in water and caused several residents to have to leave their homes while the clear-up took place.

Falkirk Council’s flooding team has been assessing the River flood risk in the Langton Road area of Westquarter from the Westquarter Burn to try and come up with the best solution to the ongoing problems.

People living nearby are invited to attend the meeting on May 26, which will be held via Microsoft Teams, to hear the options that have been shortlisted by consultants AECOM.

They have been constructing a flood model of the Westquarter Burn to improve their understanding of flood risk.

Last year, they began the study by listening to local residents who shared stories of extensive flooding problems over the years.

Falkirk Council now says they are at a stage where they would like to share with residents the main options to manage River flood risk that the study has investigated, and provide information on the next stages.

Due to the ongoing issues involving Covid-19, the presentation will be held via Microsoft Teams at 6pm on May 26.
