Piers Morgan has slammed FIFA over what he calls its 'ludicrously hypocritical' LGBTQIA+ 'virtue-signalling'.
The outspoken journalist and presenter took objection to a FIFA tweet celebrating Pride Month - and claiming the international football federation was "working to ensure the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, will be a celebration of unity and diversity".
FIFA's tweet read: "Pride Month during June is a celebration for the LGBTQIA+ community. Today has also been one of celebration at the Home of FIFA. Find out more, as well as how FIFA is working to ensure the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, will be a celebration of unity and diversity."
However, Piers retweeted it, blasting: "Please stop this ludicrously hypocritical virtue-signalling. You’ve given the World Cup to a country where it’s illegal to be gay, and Muslims can be executed for it. If you really gave a stuff about Pride Month, or gay rights, you wouldn’t have done that."
Piers' retweet had received nearly 4,500 likes in four hours, whereas FIFA's has only received 923 likes since it was tweeted on June 1.
