Piers Morgan has announced the first guest for his new talk show in a grand Twitter unveiling. The former newspaper editor said that he believed the interview will set the news agenda around the world "for days".
The programme is set to air as part of his new series on Rupert Murdoch's television station, TalkTV. It will also be broadcast on Murdoch's entertainment streaming service Fox Nation in the US.
The well-known self-publicist tweeted earlier in the day: "At 9pm tonight, I will reveal my first guest on @PiersUncensored - it’s a sensational jaw-dropping interview that will make global news for days."
At 9pm, for the big reveal, he tweeted a video showing him in conversation with the former US president. President Trump says: "OK, Piers, I'm ready... I think I'm a very honest man. Much more honest than you, actually."
Piers responds: "Really?" It's billed as 'Morgan vs Trump' and the trailer ends with the former president saying: "Turn the camera off," and leaving, adding: "Very dishonest."
The former tabloid journalist last regularly appeared on British TV when he walked off the set of Good Morning Britain on March 9, 2021 after co-host Alex Beresford took him to task over his treatment of Meghan Markle. The 57-year-old stormed out of the studio, saying: “OK, I’m done with this, sorry, no, can’t do this.”
In publicity for his new programme, he said he wants it to "uncancel those who have been cancelled". He branded his departure from ITV last year a "farce".
His new programme Piers Morgan Uncensored starts on April 25 on TalkTV.
