For many people, the festive period involves indulging on a lot of food and drink with family and friends.
With copious amounts of Prosecco, mulled wine and Bailey's being offered at every family event, this can inevitably lead to overindulging on alcohol – which is usually followed by a painful hangover.
Hangovers can vary from person to person, but they usually involve a headache, nausea, tiredness and feeling dehydrated.
While drinking moderately or not at all is the best hangover cure, there are other things which claim to help you the day after a big session.
Pharmacist and Wellness Queen Ari has shared a hangover cure which she claims is "100% effective" and that they "do it in hospitals ".
Uploading a video to her TikTok account @ thewellnesspharm, the pharmacist explains a hack she likes to call the "oral banana bag," which is an "IV fluid bag that is used in hospitals for patients that are going through alcohol withdrawal".
She continued: "It prevents them from dehydration and helps replenish those electrolytes and vitamins that they are so desperately missing".
Ari claimed that "every single person" she has told to try the oral banana bag has said it "works wonders," and she hasn't met anyone it hasn't worked on.
The hangover concoction consists of three supplements that you should take:
- Vitamin B complex vitamin
- Folic acid supplement
- Magnesium
This should be followed by lots of water to help with dehydration, and if you don't have any electrolyte drinks you could also try adding a pinch of Himalayan salt to the water.
Ari recommends to do this either an hour after you've finished drinking, or the next morning.
Another TikToker told users to save the video to survive the festive season, because "it works".
TIkTok user @ brokebutmakeitboujee showed the vitamins she had taken, and said: "I swear. I saved that video when I was in bed dying from a hangover and thought 'what do I have to lose really'? All of that is super cheap."
She continued: "I tried it a few months ago at my friend's wedding when it was back-to-back drinking and I actually felt alive the next day.
"So if you have this and have some food to line your stomach, you're going to be fine."
One person commented: "Great plan and advice! Note: Be sober enough to remember to take all of this, then you won't be hungover."
Another said: "Pauses video and walks immediately to vitamin cabinet."
A third added: "I do this before I drink to prevent a hangover and it usually works."
Although this has worked for some people, Ari states she does not offer medical advice, so it's a good idea to talk to your GP before taking supplements.
We asked Dr Anita Raja, a Birmingham-based GP, whether she thinks this hangover 'cure' could work.
She told The Mirror: "There is no evidence to suggest that taking supplements will help you overcome any form of hangover.
"Yes, you may be suffering from mineral and vitamin loss, but these are easily replenished by having a healthy fortified cereal breakfast, orange juice and plenty of nuts and oral rehydration salts. Oral rehydration with fluids is the best way forward."
She added: "It’s never a good idea to try to take vitamins that are not needed, as they may cause more harm than good. An excess of anything can be detrimental to health."
Most people get enough vitamins through their daily diet and don't need supplements, so please speak to a GP before trying this yourself.
Also, keep in mind the NHS does not advise drinking more than 14 units a week on a regular basis. This is equivalent to six pints of beer, or 10 small glasses of wine.
