Peter Andre says being sober for 10 years has made 'massive difference' to his looks

Peter Andre has told how his sobriety has helped him look young as he nears his half century birthday.

The Mysterious Girl singer, 49, has been teetotal for nearly 10 years and said it’s made a “massive difference” to his looks.

Father-of-four Pete told how he has been flooded with compliments after posting a snap on his Instagram from a pool in Cyprus last week.

“People have been lovely with their comments, and some were asking me how I stay in shape,” he wrote in his New magazine column.

The former pop star told how he lives by the “it’s fine” motto where he has an “absolute balance” of the food he loves alongside being active.

He explained: “I don’t deprive myself of anything and I don’t count daily calories, I just eat foods I love pizza, pasta and doughnuts. But for every meal that’s classified as naughty, I add an equal amount of healthy fruits and salads.”

Peter said he likes to be active most days, enjoying things like sprints, weight training or a light jog, but added: “But that’s not to say I don’t have weeks off where I don’t exercise at all and eat what I want – it’s all about balance.”

A third huge aspect of his healthy lifestyle that keeps Peter in ship shape is his sobriety.

“I also stopped drinking around 10 years ago,” he wrote, “and I think that’s made a massive difference and I definitely do feel better for it.”

“I’m 50 next year and I can honestly say I feel fantastic. And I must say thank you to everyone who commented and made me feel young as I really appreciate it.”

Peter’s GP wife Emily previously suggested their harmonious marriage could be down to their sobriety in a 2018 interview.

She said: "While we're out of the honeymoon phase, we still enjoy quality time together.

"Neither of drinks alcohol; I think drinking can sometimes cause rows," she added.

And Pete’s been vocal about the trouble he’s come up against in his previous relationships because of booze.

Peter has been vocal about his hatred of ex wife Katie Price’s drinking before.

In an old interview Peter claimed Katie, who he shares Junior, 17, and Princess 15, with, “had the devil inside her” when drunk and called it a “nightmare”.

Speaking after their split, he told The Sun: "I’m not jealous of anybody until Katie’s drunk. There’s nobody I feel threatened by when she’s sober.

"But if she’s been drinking, I know she’s capable of anything. The devil gets inside her and she’s a nightmare."
