The total raised for Ukraine by ticket sales from a once-in-a-decade concert in Perth has already passed £15,000.
And new acts continue to sign up for the much-anticipated Perth Concert for Ukraine.
Eddi Reader, Dougie MacLean, Blazin’ Fiddles and The Vale of Atholl Pipe Band have now joined the already outstanding line-up.
Perth Concert Hall is hosting the live evening - Concert for Ukraine - on Wednesday, April 20 at 7.30pm.
On show will be well-known artists from Scotland’s vibrant trad music scene, woven together with poetry and Ukrainian songs.
The tickets costing £25 each have already netted £15,000 for the humanitarian disaster happening to the Ukrainian people.
The concert will benefit the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC), Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, and anyone who wants to come along is being urged to act quickly as the concert is expected to sell out.
Dougie MacLean, the Butterstone-based writer of hit song Caledonia, told the PA yesterday: “I’m delighted to be taking part in this concert by Scotland’s musicians for the people of Ukraine.
“We all watch in horror as events in their country unfold and I hope this small gesture of support helps maintain the awareness of their plight and raises much needed funds.”
Perthshire -based poet Jim Mackintosh is organising the event along with Horsecross Arts, Alan McKinnon, Dave MacFarlane and Graeme Roger.
Jim said: “I’m humbled at the response from the Scottish creative community. Once word spread among artists, we were actively contacted by several top names who wanted to get involved.
“The concert is obviously going to be full of emotion, but we do want people to come along and enjoy themselves and feel proud that they are doing something, albeit a small thing, to help the people of Ukraine.
“And if people can’t make it but still want to show their support, they can still donate to the appeal through the Concert for Ukraine webpage.”
Top names already announced include Duncan Chisholm, Julie Fowlis, Hamish Napier, Oksana Mavrodii, Gary Innes, Karen Matheson, Donald Shaw, Sheena Wellington, Matthew Zajac, Dolina MacLennan, Phil Cunningham, Jonny Hardie, Aileen Ogilvie, Steve Byrne, Mary Ann Kennedy, Gary Innes, Kathleen Jamie, Hamish MacDonald, Gerda Stevenson, Patsy Reid, Jim and Beth Malcolm, Mad Ferret, Rituala, Margaret Bennett, Ross Ainslie and Tim Edey.
Everyone concerned has given their input for free to help the cause.
Scottish poetry Makar Kathleen Jamie will debut a specially written poem in support of the people of Ukraine at the concert.
When Kathleen takes the stage on April 20, it will be the first public readings of collective poem Our Waking Breath - a poem-letter from Scotland to Ukraine, created from single lines submitted by the public.
Tickets for Concert for Ukraine are available online at www.horsecross.co.uk, by phone 01738 621031 or in person between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.
