People in Manchester have made a cheeky yet ‘very important’ discovery after flipping a map of Audenshaw - and it’s blowing minds.
A Reddit user discovered that by rotating the map of Audenshaw Reservoirs by 90 degrees, it ended up looking like a pair of underwear.
u/Icy_Preparation_5514 shared their find on the Manchester subreddit earlier this week, with the post receiving more than 1.7k upvotes in just a matter of days.

“Turn Audenshaw reservoir 90 degrees and it looks like a pair of pants,” the post stated, alongside a photo of the map flipped around.
“I've lived literally 3 minutes walk away from it my whole life and never noticed it haha,” one person commented, with another adding: “I'm nearby and never noticed it either.”
Quick to throw a pun around, another said: “Hi Steve here from the Manchester Geological Survey, we would like to offer you a job paying £450,000 a year, starting immediately. Please type Y to accept.”
Another queried: “I think if you turned it on its side, all the water would fall out…”. But the poster responded: “It’s a valid point, but as you can see here, this hasn’t happened. The water has been contained in the briefs. Many thanks.”
Acknowledging the rare find, another congratulated by saying: “Thanks. A very important, humorous post.”
Stretching the imagination slightly, another quipped the reservoirs could also look like a bra if rotated further. "Rotate another 180 and looks like a bra," they insisted.
One other simply stated: “Underwear lake.”
Constructed in the late 1800s, the three Audenshaw Reservoirs are located between Audenshaw and Denton and originally covered 251 acres of land. In the 1990s, the third reservoir was filled in to make way for the M60.
The reservoirs are the private property of United Utilities.
The post also sparked a debate over the use of ‘pants’ as opposed to underwear.
“Pants? What southern language is this referring to underwear as pants?,” one person asked.
Another said: “Pants are much longer. Remember, you’re in a Manchester sub here ;).”
