People disgusted by homemade spaghetti bolognese that looks like 'marinated tapeworm'

Sharing a picture of your home-cooked dinner is always risky, as people will always have an opinion – either good or bad. One dish that is especially contentious to share is the classic spaghetti bolognese, as many people have their own way of doing it, and what they think is right or wrong.

One man has opened a can of worms, as it were, by asking people to judge his homemade bolognese, with one person likening it to a "marinated tapeworm".

His dinner plate was shared by the popular Twitter account Rate My Plate, with the caption: "Homepage Spag Bol by Phil," and showed a beige-looking spaghetti bolognese with overcooked macaroni, carrots, celery, onions, beef and a watery sauce.

Rate My Plate is a community where people share pictures of their most weird and wonderful dishes, which is then judged by fellow foodies online.

However, he may live to regret sharing it because it has been seen by thousands of people and many of them are slating his homemade dish.

One person said: "I wouldn't feed this to my dog."

Another commented: "I have no idea what this is but it's most definitely not spag bol."

"That does not look anything like spaghetti bol – absolutely rank," said another.

Another simply said: "Deeply upsetting," while a fifth asked: "How long ago did it die?"

One person noted that Phil hadn't even used spaghetti, and instead had used macaroni that is "so over cooked it's lost its shape". He added: "Jesus, this is a crime".

Others likened it to something they may see on the ride of a road after a heavy night out, with one person explaining: "Seen similar in the kerbside outside a nightclub, with pigeons tucking in at 6am on a Sunday morning. That is 50 shades of spag bol wrong that is."

However, one person claiming to be a former chef offered some constructive feedback, saying: "Former chef here; technically the elements of a ragu are there - soffrito, carne, pomodori - but the cooking times are a little off. 4/10 for effort."

Another person helpfully suggested: "Mince and onions need a bit more browning before adding more tomatoes I think. It's all a wee bit pale."
