Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Al Schmidt revealed on Sunday that the state is currently investigating potentially fraudulent voter registration applications in Lancaster County. Schmidt emphasized that these were applications to register to vote and not actual ballots that were cast.
Schmidt, a Republican, assured the public that the Pennsylvania Department of State has been working closely with the county to provide guidance and support throughout the review process. He highlighted that the identification and investigation of these applications should actually increase confidence in the security of the election process.
Law enforcement and election officials in Lancaster County had previously announced the discovery of suspected voter registration fraud. The incidents were linked to a large-scale canvassing operation that submitted registration applications with duplicate handwriting and inaccurate or unverifiable addresses.
Approximately 2,500 voter registration forms have been isolated for further review and investigation. However, the exact number of fraudulent applications has not been disclosed by officials.
Former President Donald Trump has raised concerns about voter fraud in Lancaster County, along with York County. Trump and the Republican National Committee seem to be preparing to challenge voting results if Trump does not win.
