Last week, Vice President Kamala Harris chose to celebrate her 60th birthday at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Georgia, under the leadership of Senior Pastor Jamal Bryant. Pastor Bryant expressed his excitement, describing the opportunity as a dream come true.
During the Sunday sermon, Pastor Bryant addressed the audience, specifically focusing on the importance of support from Black men towards Black women. He emphasized the role of sisters in raising and nurturing Black men, highlighting the need for men to stand behind women leaders.
He acknowledged the support Harris has received from the majority of Black men but also raised concerns about the existence of misogyny within the community. Pastor Bryant stressed the importance of confronting and addressing misogyny directly, rather than ignoring its presence.
His message echoed sentiments expressed by other Harris surrogates, including Tony West, Harris' brother-in-law, who recently spoke to members of the Milwaukee NAACP on similar themes.
Pastor Bryant's sermon not only celebrated the support for women leaders but also called for a collective effort to combat misogyny within the community. He urged for unity and solidarity among Black men and women in supporting each other's endeavors.
As Vice President Harris observed from the congregation, Pastor Bryant's words resonated with the audience, eliciting applause and affirmations of the need for mutual support and respect within the community.
