A two-car crash has claimed the life of a Blair Athol woman who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, with police arresting the driver of the other.
It was one of several incidents in Adelaide's north yesterday evening, with police also investigating two shootings including one between cars.
The fatal crash happened on Main North Road at Elizabeth about 7pm when a BMW collided with a van.
The van then crashed into a tree on a median strip and caught alight.
The driver, a 56-year-old Blair Athol man, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious injuries.
The 51-year-old Munno Para man who was driving the BMW was arrested and charged with causing death and harm by dangerous driving, and was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court in March.
In a separate incident also in Adelaide's north, a young pedestrian was hit by a car about 10pm on Charlotte Street at Smithfield Plains.
The 19-year-old woman was taken to the RAH with serious injuries.
Police are also investigating two shootings believed to be linked, with shots allegedly fired by the occupants of a silver BMW and a dark sedan in peak-hour traffic at Elizabeth Park about 5:30pm.
"Witnesses reported seeing shots fired from both vehicles as they chased each other along Main North Road, causing the glass to smash on the rear window of one of the cars," police said.
The BMW then turned onto Womma Road and the sedan travelled towards Gawler.
"Around the same time, police were called to a house on Wallace Road at Elizabeth Vale after nearby residents reported hearing what sounded like gunshots," police said.
Police found spent ammunition rounds near the property and believe the shootings were linked.
