P&O protestors call for boycott of services during demonstration at Cairnryan Port

Protestors have called for a boycott of P&O Ferries during a demonstration at Cairnryan Port after hundreds of workers were 'shamefully' sacked on the spot without warning last week.

A crowd has gathered at the port in Dumfries and Galloway demanding that P&O Ferries reinstate the workers.

Dozens of trade unionists have travelled from across Scotland to protest including members of the RMT, Nautilus International and the Scottish Socialist Party.

Two buses of supporters from Glasgow's RMT shipping branch are among those that have travelled to CairnRyan to show solidarity with sacked workers.

P&O services between Larne and Cairnryan are still suspended following the redundancies on March 17.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has promised action against the company and says it will be pursued through the courts and could be liable for millions in compensation.

Replacement P&O crews from the sub-continent are reportedly being paid less than £2 an hour.

A RMT spokesperson said : "The fight for P&O jobs continues as the protest reaches Cairnryan. We will not be silenced.

"There has been an excellent turnout at Cairnryan today to demand the reinstatement of P&O Ferries workers.

"The RMT and Nautilus International are clear: we will not stand for bandit capitalism."
