Nvidia Touts AI Advancements For Industrial Markets, Humanoid Robots

Artificial intelligence technology leader Nvidia late Monday announced software advancements that expand generative AI applications into industrial markets. Nvidia stock ended the regular session lower.

At the SIGGRAPH 2024 conference in Denver, Nvidia announced improvements to Universal Scene Description, or OpenUSD, that could expand adoption of the universal 3D data interchange framework to robotics, industrial design and engineering.

The advancements will accelerate developers' ability to build highly accurate virtual worlds to simulate real-world workflows, Nvidia said.

At SIGGRAPH, Nvidia is focused on its software and cloud service offerings rather than its industry-leading AI semiconductors and computing hardware. The five-day conference covers computer graphics and interactive digital technologies.

Nvidia Stock Falls Ahead Of Latest News

Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang is holding two fireside chats at the show. In the first, he will discuss how accelerated computing and generative AI are transforming industries and creating new opportunities for innovation. The second is a one-on-one conversation with Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg.

Huang's remarks could provide a catalyst for Nvidia stock, which is down from recent highs.

On the stock market today, Nvidia stock fell 1.3% to close at 111.59.

AI Boom Moves Into Heavy Industries

Nvidia's new offerings include software tools to jump-start AI development for industrial markets. They consist of Nvidia inference microservices, or NIMs, for AI models based on the Nvidia Omniverse platform. The new AI models better understand three-dimensional space, physics and material properties.

"The generative AI boom for heavy industries is here," Rev Lebaredian, vice president of Omniverse and simulation technology at Nvidia, said in a news release. "Until recently, digital worlds have been primarily used by creative industries. Now, with the enhancements and accessibility Nvidia NIM microservices are bringing to OpenUSD, industries of all kinds can build physically based virtual worlds and digital twins to drive innovation while preparing for the next wave of AI: robotics."

Foxconn, a global contract manufacturer with more than 170 factories worldwide, is already benefiting from Nvidia's computing platform, using NIM microservices and Omniverse to create a digital twin of a factory under development.

Nvidia Stock News: Humanoid Robots Get Smarter

At SIGGRAPH, Nvidia introduced new NIM services that can help developers train physical machines and improve how they handle complex tasks. Those services include tools for training humanoid robots to perform tasks. Nvidia currently has over 100 NIMs.

At the conference, Nvidia announced that it is providing the world's leading robot manufacturers, AI model developers and software makers with a suite of services, models and computing platforms to develop, train and build the next generation of humanoid robots.

Among the offerings are software tools that allow developers to train robots using small amounts of human demonstration data.

The MimicGen NIM generates synthetic motion data based on recorded tele-operated data from spatial computing devices like Apple Vision Pro.

Nvidia stock is on two IBD lists: Leaderboard and Tech Leaders.
