The cause of a huge recycling fire which burned for a week has been ruled accidental, fire chiefs have said.
As many as 12 fire engines were called out to the incident at Nottingham Recycling, off Abbeyfield Road and the A52 Clifton Boulevard, near the Lenton Lane Industrial Estate.
It started on the afternoon of Monday, January 31, and the fire sent thick, black smoke billowing into the sky.
The A52 was also closed in both directions on the day, causing widespread disruption across the city.
The investigation into the cause of the incident had been put on hold because of the presence of asbestos.
But firefighters have now said the fire was accidental.
Area Manager and incident commander Bryn Coleman, of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “When crews arrived at the incident, the recycling plant was well alight.
“Firefighters from Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service worked hard to get the blaze under control and to stop it spreading to neighbouring businesses.
“Our fire investigation team carried out a full investigation, despite it being delayed due to the level of asbestos in the immediate area.
“Thank you to everyone who worked on and provided support for this incident, including our partner agencies.
"We’d also like to thank the local community and businesses for their patience with us whilst we worked to make sure the fire was completely out, and that the area was safe.”
