A grandad had been to a wake in Nottingham when he stabbed a man involved in a physical tussle with his partner and her cousin. Orville Waisome had rushed back from work in Wales for the wake.
A demolition man and carpet cutter by trade, he visited the Horse & Groom pub in Radford Road, New Basford, with the ladies on Friday, September 10, 2021, and forget he had his work knife in his pocket.
The victim had been drinking in the pub separately - but left shortly after them in the early hours of September 11. Their route took them along Mansfield Road.

It was the victim who leaned forward and made contact with the cousin - who did not seem "unduly troubled by the contact," said Steven Taylor, prosecuting at Nottingham Crown Court. But the man picked up pace - and words were then exchanged between him and the two women.
The physical altercation followed, with the victim bundled to the ground by the women, who were not prosecuted. Waisome used his work tool - a knife - in his pocket, stabbing the man twice to the chest.
The man staggered into Food Express, Mansfield Road, and collapsed near the counter, before he was taken to Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham. He needed exploratory surgery - which established his major organs were not damaged.
He was given significant blood transfusions after a "catastrophic haemorrhage" and spent 10 days in hospital. He had scars from the stab wounds - but a more major scar from the surgery which runs down his torso.
The incident was heavily covered by Nottinghamshire Live as an appeal was launched for witnesses and residents spoke of their shock. It resulted in Waisome handing himself in to police 11 days later.
He was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for two years, on Friday (April 21) after pleading guilty to wounding, and 12 months concurrently, also suspended, for having the knife.
Judge Stuart Rafferty KC told Waisome, 45, of Curzon Gardens, St Ann's: "I am satisfied you did not set out with intent to cause him harm". He mentioned Waisome was a hard-working man, who works full-time and long hours and, when not working, his time is devoted to his grandchildren.
Detective Sergeant Louise Bradford, from Nottinghamshire Police, had said: “The victim has stumbled into the shop after suffering two life threatening stab wounds, in an attack believed to have occurred further up Mansfield Road.
“Officers quickly provided first aid at the scene to stem the bleeding, but he is still in a critical condition in hospital".
