Manchester United supporters have shown their backing for Cristiano Ronaldo following the club’s 4-0 defeat to Brighton on Saturday.
The 37-year-old watched on in disbelief as the Seagulls swooped through the visiting defence to hammer home four goals without reply. The travelling fans were heard chanting ‘viva Ronaldo’ during the game before applauding the Portugal superstar post-match.
This was recognised by the striker, before a chorus of ‘you’re not fit to wear the shirt’ rang out towards the other members of the United squad. Supporters left the Amex Stadium en masse long before the final whistle, with only a few remaining at full-time.
After the game, United players were witnessed leaving swiftly. Meanwhile, Ronaldo left in a separate car once the two club coaches had departed for Manchester.
It's claimed that a number of other players left separately due to some squad members having allocated days off. But MEN Sport's Samuel Luckhurst only witnessed security personnel discussing Ronaldo’s travel arrangements.
United fans have been reacting to the fact that Ronaldo left desperately to his teammates, with most siding with the Portuguese forward. Some of them voiced their backing on Twitter.
@mwk360: He’s the goat and only one good enough to wear the club shirt. Rest are useless ******. Don’t mix with this filth.
@ForestHills1903: Ronaldo is the very least of our problems, if he even is one.
