The crisis in our NHS is putting lives at risk.
But this pressure hasn't just materialised this winter, because of a spike in flu cases or a hangover from the pandemic.
It is a crisis 15 years in the making and is a direct result of decisions made by the SNP.
Today, across Scotland, A&E services are overwhelmed, health boards have cancelled surgeries and staff are left overworked and demoralised.
As we speak, thousands of Scots wait in A&E departments for vital treatment, while frontline staff are being forced to consider pulling 24-hour shifts.
We are hearing reports of seven hour waits for emergency ambulances and of lives being lost waiting on medical aid.
This is a crisis 15 years in the making. The result: the longest ever NHS waiting lists - 750,000 Scots waiting. The worst ever A&E waiting times - 2000 people a week waiting more than 12 hours. Record levels of delayed discharge - 58,501 NHS bed days lost a month as a result.
This situation is unsafe and unsustainable.
But rather than address this crisis, Nicola Sturgeon has said her Health Secretary is "doing a good job" and has suggested people are turning up to A&E needlessly. This is out of touch and out of order.
On Wednesday, I met frontline medics and representatives from trade unions representing NHS workers.
And the voice of NHS workers could not have been clearer, louder or more united.
They spoke of a decade and a half of government failure to support the NHS, leading to a potential collapse of the entire system.
We heard directly from staff about this crisis's impact on them. They told us this is causing them psychological damage because they cannot treat patients with the dignity they need and deserve.
One of them said the conditions they were working in meant "no dignity, no respect, no safety for patients".
The BMA and the Royal College of Emergency Medicine have both said in stark terms that this crisis is leading to avoidable deaths. They predict that could be as many as 60 avoidable deaths a week.
After 15 years of the SNP, our NHS is broken, the system is failing and staff are being asked to do the impossible.
We can't go on like this. In place of SNP failure, Scottish Labour has a plan to support staff, defend patients and save our NHS.
We can fix the staffing crisis in social care by delivering fair pay for social care workers - rising to £15 an hour. We can relieve the pressure on A&E and save lives by increasing surge capacity in our emergency departments.
We can bolster Scotland's frontline GPs by restoring funding that has been slashed by the SNP.
And we can future-proof our NHS by delivering the workforce planning we need for the doctors and nurses of tomorrow.
Sticking plasters won't save our NHS - we need real action now.
services are health boards surgeries overworked The system is failing and staff are being asked to do the impossible.
Tories putting workers' rights at risk
Last week, the Tories doubled down on their long record of treating frontline workers with contempt as they introduced draconian new anti-trade union legislation.
Make no mistake - these laws are not about protecting public services.
This is an attempt to undermine workers' rights and distract from 12 years of failure on the
Tories' watch. Across the UK, Tory mismanagement has seen real-term wages plummet, leaving workers on average £1628 a year worse off.
Now, as workers fight for fair pay and conditions during the worst cost-of-living crisis in decades, the Tories are trying to strip away their ability to defend themselves.
The Tories expect the people of Scotland to believe the key workers we clapped for throughout the pandemic are a threat to our prosperity. That is a disgrace.
If the Tories were serious about preventing strikes, they would be getting around the table to negotiate a fair deal for these workers - but instead, they are ploughing ahead with this unworkable and indefensible attack.
We need a change.
Labour government will scrap these dangerous new laws, strengthen workers' rights, and put an end to years of Tory failure and decline.
Only Labour can get rid of this morally bankrupt Tory government and deliver a fair deal for workers right across the UK.
