YouTube account The Ghost Trail recently uploaded footage detailing some of Edinburgh’s most haunted locations - and it gets pretty spooky.
First off, they headed for Arthur's Seat - where host Jo made her way to the peak. She tells viewers of the story most Edinburgh locals have heard many times over, when a group of young boys discovered miniature coffins in one of the hills caves in the 1830s.
Some have suggested the coffins were placed there by a group of witches, while others believe they were made by sailors who gave them to their wives before they headed out to sea. One of the more bizarre theories comes from the early 20th century, when an article in the Scotsman gave some clues.

The article tells of a strange man named Mr B, who came into a shop one day and drew three coffins, each with a date underneath them - 1837, 1838, 1840. Mr B supposedly lost a relative or friend in each of these years, so it’s also suggested that he may have both predicted these losses and be connected to the coffins.
After doing some of the usual tourist activities, the Ghost Stories Trail team went for a tour of the Edinburgh Vaults. One of the stories they tell is of the Banshee Labyrinth, which claims to be the most haunted pub in Scotland.
Locals, tourists and staff at the pub have all reported spooky going on over the years. When the venue was undergoing renovations, workmen supposedly heard and saw a grey looking woman sobbing into her hands.
She then removed her hands from face, and had no eyes. This ghost is said to be connected to a home nextdoor, that belonged to a wealthy aristocrat.

An unpleasant character, he had a dungeon in his basement where he tortured suspected victims. It’s believed that the wailing ‘banshee’ was one of his victims.
In another area of the Vaults, the team tells of a Victorian ghost boy who makes himself known by tugging at the back of tourists' coats. Nicknamed Jack, it’s believed he’s looking for a mother figure.
A third section of the Vaults is explored, one that was used by a coven of witches from 1996 until 2019. All their belongings remain in the space, though they had an original Vault elsewhere in the tunnels where strange things would happen.
They discovered ‘cold’ sections of the room which would move around, and saw a man's face in the mirror. The witches would discover scratches on their bodies, and feel physically sick while in the room.
