Music legend Peter Hook has told how his daughter suffers horrifying flashbacks to the Manchester bombing – after being injured as she was trampled in the chaos.
The New Order bassist’s daughter Jessica, 20, was at an Ariana Grande concert when suicide terrorist Salman Ramadan Abedi blew up his rucksack, killing 22 people and injuring over 100 in May 2017.
Hooky, 63, said of Jessica, who works as a production assistant for his new band The Light: “She still suffers from the shock.
“She still can’t close her bedroom door. She got trampled – she was injured.
“Even in Sydney Opera House the other night she had a major wobble at the end of the concert.
“It’s like she’s seen that wonderful aura and emotion of finishing a great gig literally destroyed by somebody like that. Some friends of ours’
children have been more affected because they had to walk through the carnage.
“They’re still living with it and trying to come to terms with it now.”
Peter said Jessica has had counselling and is in touch with survivors and victims’ families.
“She’s very active in making sure she looks after herself,” he said.
“And she’s been very active in making sure she’s been helping other survivors, it has to be said.
“She’s also involved in a lot of the victims’ collectives and things like that so it’s good.
“She’s done well to sort of pull it round and help rather than suffer, do you know what I mean? So yeah, I’m very, very proud of her.”
Hours after the attack at Manchester Arena, Peter tweeted: “My daughter made it home safe from Ariana Grande last night. My heart goes out to all parents & those involved. Manchester stay strong.”
He has said hearing about the attack “was the most horrible thing I’ve been through. The most horrible phone call I’ve ever taken”.
Singer Ariana returned for a One Love Manchester charity show a month later to raise money for those affected.
Peter – who co-founded Joy Division in 1976 but has had court battles with his old New Order bandmates – said: “It’s a rotten world and I suppose in a funny way that’s why we do what we do – even what Ariana Grande does.
“She got on with it, tried to divert people and just entertain them and make them forget bad things in the world, really.”
