A Bishopton mum is aiming to hit the right notes after launching a singing group for new mums to help boost positive wellbeing.
Laura Hill decided to establish the gathering – named MotherVoices – as she is aware of the power singing and how motherhood can radically chang a woman.
Some mums can find the experience lonely and overwhelming – and this can be especially true for new mothers who might be surprised at the impact on their way of living.
Choir leader Laura said: “I am really interested in the benefits of singing and how much it can improve people’s wellbeing.
"I have been wanting to create a choir for new mums for a while. When I had my children, particularly my first, there were a lot of things there for the babies – which was great – but there were not so many things there for the mums themselves.
“Becoming a mum was quite hard, and getting to do the things I enjoyed, and you have to develop this whole new identity.
"I thought about starting something like this eventually because I thought it would be a great way for people to come together, feel close as a group and do something that was for them.”
The group allows women to get the chance to speak about anything that is on their mind; fostering a sense of community and closeness among new mums.
The songs that Laura has chosen also have uplifting lyrics to ensure the atmosphere remains a positive one.
She added: “There is no pressure to read music and turn up every week – it is mostly for the enjoyment and the benefits of singing.”
The classes are running for six weeks and started from Friday, October 28. They will be an hour long and take place at the Life Church in Paisley from 11am with pay at the door. It's £50 for the block.
