A new yoga class has been launched at a Rutherglen community centre with the aim of ending mental health stigma.
Reece Ewart and mum Carole Quinn began the new class around a month ago at Tempo Community Space.
The duo were born and raised in Rutherglen, and although they have relocated to Largs, they chose to host the class, due to the lack of activities available locally.
Reece told Lanarkshire Live: “Anyone is welcome to come along, you can bring along your child or grandparent. The class is for beginners, so it’s not strenuous. The class is more catered towards mental health, it helps to lower depression and anxiety.
“It’s about building a community in the class. People can share ideas and swap phone numbers and I think that’s what's needed at the moment, due to the situation we’ve all been in.
“We’re really trying to focus on breaking the stigma on mental health and we’re trying to get that message out to people in Rutherglen."
Reece first started teaching yoga in 2016 and has also taught the practice in retreats throughout South America for two to three weeks at a time.
Reece added: “We’ve always done classes in Largs and when we teamed up with Tempo to do classes in Rutherglen.
“Tempo gets no Government funds so all funds we make from the classes go straight back to them.
“The class is a four-week block from 2pm till 3.30pm and both myself and my mum teach it. We’ve got a very mixed age group for it.”
The next block of classes begins on Sunday, July 3, and can be booked through the yoga email address tejsubagh@gmail.com with a £7.50 donation.
