New Glasgow hot yoga studio to open in east end supporting trauma survivors

A new hot yoga studio has in the east end of Glasgow, with the aim of helping support some of the city's most vulnerable.

Owner Lou Prendergast has launched Hot Scot Yoga and Fitness in the Calton area bringing hot yoga and fitness classes to vulnerable groups and individuals in the city’s east end.

Backed by Glasgow City Council’s Area Partnership Funding and a loan from Social Enterprise Scotland, Hot Scot will offer regular classes as well as closed classes in partnership with local agencies.

Located at 146 Crownpoint Road, the studio is the latest space for Lou's growing portfolio. From humble beginnings, setting up a small studio in Finnieston, her company has now expanded into a chain of boutique studios in the West and east end of the city. The main studio in Partick is augmented by a new mini-studio, especially for one-to-one sessions.

The east end premises is local to many organisations that are already offering support to survivors of abuse and those in recovery from addiction. Lou met with several agencies in the area, as part of her community research, which established demand for a studio.

As well as referrals from the surrounding support agencies, including free sessions for kids, young mums, trauma survivors and those recovering from substance abuse, there are public classes on offer at specially discounted prices, substantially lower than regular prices.

Lou said: "It has been a struggle bringing the project to fruition because there was scepticism over demand for hot yoga in the east end. I had a strong vision for the studio, which kept me pushing forwards – and now it’s finally open!"

Disciplines include Original Hot (Bikram) Yoga and the great fun fitness session, Inferno Hot Pilates, as well as traditional yoga and trauma-sensitive yoga. Hot Scot, formerly Hot Yoga West End, has rebranded in line with the expansion into new markets.

New customers are invited to sign up for the £20 for 20 days at Crownpoint Road and reap the rewards of a regular hot practice.
