PATNA: The IIT Patna (IIT-P) slid down eight notches in the "overall" category and secured the 59th rank in the country among the higher education institutes as per the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) report released on Friday. It also slid down in the engineering category from 21st rank to 33rd rank this year.
NIT-Patna, on the other hand, showed marked improvement by securing the 63rd rank in the engineering category as compared to the 72nd rank last year.
The IIT-P secured the 33rd rank by scoring 56.17% in engineering category. NIT-P got a score of 46.24% and secured the 63rd rank in this category. The ranking framework of the institutions across the country was done under five broad parameters - teaching, learning and resources (TLR), research and professional practice (RP), graduation outcome (GO), outreach and inclusivity (OI) and perception (PR). Ranks are assigned based on the total sum of marks.
IIT-P has scored 71.45 in TLR, 47.78 in RPC, 62.39 in GO, 51.47 in OI and 27.92 in perception. Similarly, NIT-P has scored 60.96 in TLR, 32.77 in RPC, 65.77 in GO, 42.70 in OI and 7 in perception.
"This institute would have performed much better and achieved higher rank had it scored well in the parameter of perception in which it could score just seven out of 100," said NIT-P director Pradip Kumar Jain.
He added the institution has been continuously striving hard to excel in all the parameters and that's why it has moved up from nearly 200th rank to the 63rd rank in a span of just five years. "If everything goes well, the institute would definitely achieve higher rank in the next year's ranking," he said.
In the category of architecture, NIT-P has secured 30th rank by scoring 46.28. In the category of research institutions, IIT-P has achieved 41st rank with a score of 41.19.
IIM-Bodh Gaya is yet another institution from the state which has secured the 73rd rank in management category. Chandragupta Institute of Management-Patna (CIMP) has secured a rank in the 102-125 band, said its director Rana Singh. Last year, CIMP had figured in the rank band between 76-100.
No institute from the state has figured among the top 100 institutions in pharmacy, university, dental, law and medical categories.
