'My neighbour dumps rubbish outside my home - I've reported them but they won't stop'

Living next to a messy neighbour is certainly frustrating. Nobody enjoys looking out the window and seeing a pile of rubbish waiting to be cleared away. But there's only so much you can do. After all, for the most part, it's up to everyone to look after their property as they see fit.

However, one resident has found themselves tackling a more complex problem as their neighbour's rubbish has started spilling out onto the street.

"My next door neighbours have a mess in their back garden. That's ok, it's their back garden, they can do whatever they like, however, I have had problems with them dumping stuff in the shared alley before, outside my property and not theirs!" the frustrated parent explained in a post to Mumsnet.

The complainant shared a diagram to illustrate the problem (Reddit)

"After reporting them to the council who came and moved it, there's been nothing for ages, until today I was putting the bin out and they've dumped more stuff. I wouldn't mind them dumping it outside their own property, but it's halfway over my property and halfway over theirs."

The parent added: "They don't move stuff quick. It's likely to be languishing for months," before sharing a diagram to illustrate the problem.

"On the diagram, the stuff they've dumped is in orange," they clarified. Then, the author asked commenters: "Am I being unreasonable to think they are cheeky f******s? Is it time for another call to the council?"

One person replied: "Council each & every time. Their side, yours or both! It's an alley for everyone to use, not their personal refuse spot."

Another revealed: "People dump outside of my property and I report it every single time." Meanwhile, someone else advised: "Chuck it on top of their bins if you can. The alley probably acts as a fire exit route for residents."
