Murgitroyd has acquired rival intellectual property (IP) protection firm Creation IP.
The acquisition - for an undisclosed sum - is the firm’s third deal within the last eight months.
Creation’s client list ranges from Scottish based spin-outs and start-ups, to larger enterprises and US-based corporates.
Founded in 2012 by Bryn Williams and John Collins - both experienced patent attorneys who worked together at another UK IP firm - the business now has 12 staff, who will all transfer to Murgitroyd upon completion.
The business will move from its current base in Hillington Park Innovation Centre, to Murgitroyd’s head office, five miles away in central Glasgow.
The deal increases Murgitroyd’s headcount to more than 450.
Gordon Stark, chief executive at Murgitroyd, said: “Creation IP's focus on building strong, long-lasting, trust-based relationships with clients aligns closely with our own approach and is evidenced by a strong track record of supporting innovative companies who are bringing new products and services to the market.”
Collins added: “By joining forces, we can now provide our clients with an even broader range and depth of services to protect their ideas, innovations and inventions and we are confident that the Creation IP team will make a significant contribution to Murgitroyd’s ambitious growth plans for the future.”
The deal follows Murgitroyd buying Irish IP firm Hanna Moore + Curley in September, followed by another UK practice, UDL Intellectual Property, in November.
